Did you do 12 pubs of Temple Bar and need another challenge? Are you in Galway and  want to enjoy this time treasured Irish tradition? Well, we have a list of cool pubs for you to try as a 12 Pubs of Christmas Galway Challenge. Don’t forget,  you need to come up with different rules for each pub (left hand pub, no swearing pub, refer to yourself in third person etc etc whatever floats your boat), Christmas jumpers are optional but highly encouraged and dares are optional but make everything even more fun!

Another great pub in the Eyre Square, with awesome cocktails, premium Whiskey range and pints you can sip late into a night


Full of character and charm, this family bar is popular with locals and tourist alike.

Kings Head

The Kings Head Pub is located on High Street in the heart of Galway’s Latin Quarter. This landmark pub has earned a fantastic reputation for live music and comedy, good honest hearty food and great craic over three floors.


Located in the city centre of Galway’s vibrant ‘Latin Quarter’ The Quays is one of Galway’s most famous and historic drinking establishments, also located just across the street from us!

Located just across the bridge from the Claddagh, it’s distinctive historical building holds a tavern to be proud of. Monroes Tavern is renowned for it’s friendly staff, warm atmosphere and live music.

John Keogh – the LockKeepers

John Keogh’s – The Lock Keeper Is a newly developed gastropub in the heart of Galway’s Westend.


The well-lit, easygoing Bierhaus is now a popular haunt of Galway’s contemporary art scene. It has twenty beers on tap, over 60 craft beers on offer, and the best of the current breed of Irish craft breweries. Try their Bahn-Mi sandwitches!

Blue Note

Offering the very best in Electro, Soul, House, Disco and Songs with words from Galway’s most established DJ’s as well as the new kids on the block – The Blue Note is without doubt regarded as Galway’s best pre-club pub.

Massimo has much to recommend it. Situated in the West end of Galway City it has a stylish spacious interior with lots of comfortable seating and even a small dance floor!
