Is breakfast included in the price?
Yes! A light continental breakfast which includes juice, tea/coffee/hot chocolate and a selection of cereals, breads and preserves is included in the price. This is available on a self-service basis in the kitchen between 7am and 9.30am daily. Special dietary requirements may be catered for, please get in touch in advance of our arrival!
Are there common areas/kitchens available to use?
There is a common room and a communal kitchen. Both of these common areas are closed between midnight and 6:00am for cleaning and to minimise noise inside the hostel. The kitchen is also closed just after breakfast for cleaning. There are fridges and storage cupboards if you wish to buy food and cook for yourself. Make sure to check out the equipment before you go grocery shopping!
Are linen and towels included?
All bed linen is included in your price. Towels are provided in Twin and Double rooms; and are available for hire at reception for guests in shared rooms.
Do I have a bathroom in the room?
Yes. All rooms have an ensuite bathroom. This includes a private toilet and shower.
What are the check in and check out times?
Reception is open 24 hours, so you can check-in anytime, but your rooms will not be ready for use until after 3pm. If you are arriving early, we will be happy to store your bags free of charge, and you can use our common room and kitchen until your check in time. If you are arriving late we would appreciate if you could let us know. Check out is at 10:30am on your day of departure and luggage storage is available after departure for a small fee.
Do Barnacles Hostels have a curfew?
No, there is no curfew. Reception is open 24 hour a day.
Can I book a room for females only?
All of our dormitory rooms are sold on a mixed sex basis. If you want to book a female only room then you need to request this at the time of booking and we will do our best to accommodate your request. Please note that reservations are subject to availability.
How is Twin different from Double room?
A twin room has a set of bunk beds and a double room has one large double bed. They are both suitable for up to 2 people sharing.
Do I have to reserve a complete room?
No, in the dormitory rooms (12/11, 10, 8, 6 and 4 person rooms) you can buy the number of beds you need. The other beds will be sold on to other guests. In the case of twin and double rooms the room is sold on a per room basis only. If you want to reserve complete room for your party, you can do so as well, just keep in mind you will have to pay for any unused beds in the dorm as well (ie. if there is 5 of you booking 6 bed dorm, you will have to pay for 6 beds). Our reservations team can help you with this!
Do Barnacles hostels have WiFi or Internet?
Yes! There is free WiFi through the hostel building and you can also use computers free of charge in the common room.
Is there parking available at the hostel?
No, there is no parking in our hostels. The closest parking to us is in Fleet Street Car Park (https://www.parkrite.ie/carparks/fleet ). You can validate your parking ticket at reception for discount on 24 hr rates.
Can I smoke in the hostel?
No, smoking is not permitted in any part of the hostel. This is endorsed by No Smoking in the Workplace legislation introduced by the Irish Government in 2004 to safeguard the health of employees in the workplace. This national smoking ban also applies to pubs, restaurants, cinemas and all public amenities.
Is there locker storage in the rooms?
There are large lockers under each set of bunks. You can use your own lock or purchase one from the vending machine.
What safekeeping facilities are provided?
Safety deposit facilities are available (suitable for cameras, documents, laptops etc) for small daily charge. Please note that these facilities may only be available when there is a manager on duty so make sure to check this if you are storing something! We also operate a left luggage facility where you can store your bags during or after departure for €1 per bag.
Your booking queries
What is a pre-authorisation?
All credit cards will have a pre-authorisation carried out on them approximately 3 days prior to your arrival. This is not a charge to your credit card. We are only checking that all credit cards are valid and that in the event of a no-show, the card has sufficient funds available to pay for the firsts nights’ accommodation as per the booking terms and conditions. This pre -authorisation will be shown on your bank statement but it will be automatically released after 3 – 5 working days. Release time for debit cards, prepaid cards and post cards will vary, so please contact your card issuer for further information. When you check in, you will have the option of completing this transaction and paying with the same card (must have the physical card with you as proof!) You can change your method of payment if you wish.
What methods of payment are accepted?
Our preferred methods of payment are cash, Mastercard and Visa credit/debit cards as payment. When making a reservation, a credit card number is required to guarantee the reservation. If you are unable to book via these methods, we may also take an electronic bank transfer. However, this must be organised at least a month prior to arrival. You can also prepay via PayPal. No Paypal account is required. Get in touch with our Reservations Team if you would prefer to do this.
Please note accommodation must be paid for in full on arrival, if not done in advance.
How can I check if I made a booking?

I need to cancel my booking. How do I do it?
Email our reservations team on firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, reference, and dates of travel, so we can cancel booking for you (subject to your booking terms and conditions). We cannot accept cancellations over the phone – all cancellations must be made in writing. If you made a booking on Hostelworld, Booking.com or any other website other than our own website, please cancel on that website as well.
What is your cancellation policy?
We operate different policies, displayed at the time of booking. If you booked a Non-refundable rate, it is indeed non-refundable and cannot be changed for different dates or cancelled. Otherwise, a 24 to 48 hour cancellation policy applies and this will be detailed in your booking confirmation. Reservations must be cancelled by 2.30pm on the day/2 days prior to the arrival date, otherwise a penalty charge equal to the cost of the first night’s stay will apply. Group reservations have different policies, displayed on your invoice.

I made an error on my booking, how do I fix it?
Get in touch with our Reservations Team on firstname.lastname@example.org with details of your booking (your name, hostel you booked, reference/confirmation number if you have it, and dates) and let us know what you wanted to book so we can amend the booking for you or recommend the best way for you to change it.
Do you take group bookings?
Yes, we do! Get in touch with our reservations team for help with group bookings or check out our groups page for more info.
Do you have age restrictions?
We have no age restrictions. We welcome under 18’s if they are accompanied by an adult or responsible guardian and stay in a room exclusively for their party.
What if I love it at Barnacles and want to stay longer?
Well, as much as we would be delighted to hear that, we do operate maximum stay policies. Check with reception to see what your options are!
Do I have to be a member?
Nope! We are independent hostels. To stay at our hostels all you need is a valid photo ID (passport/drivers licence) as proof of identity and enough money to pay for your stay.
