As usual, Galway, the city of Festivals do not disappoint! Even though most of the travellers may opt for Dublin for St Patrick’s Day, there is loads to be said about staying in Galway, enjoying the smaller parade and more traditional feel of the celebrations. But, there is of course plenty events taking place in Galway in March. Our favourite events, you need to check out:
Head of the River Rowing Regatta
This year the Head of the River will be organised by NUIG Boat Club and Tribesmen, and it takes place from the mouth of the lake to a little downstream from the Quincentennial Bridge. Hundreds of boats will take place in the competition, set to last all day from 10.30 am with different boat sizes competing at different times.
St Patrick’s Festival – 14 – 17th March
Time to celebrate all things Irish! Local artist and local community get involved in the festival each year, making it a great place to experience St Patrick’s day the Irish way! 2018 marks the 115th anniversary of the Galway St Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade will start at 11.30am and finish at approximately 1.00pm.
Connacht Rugby v Edinburgh (Guinness Pro12) – 23 March
Make sure to check out this super sports fixture, Connacht play host to Edinburgh at The Sportsground in the Guinness Pro12. Make sure to book your hostel bed before the match and celebrate well into the night, Galway is after all known as a party city!
