It is no wonder Galway is called “Festival City”! There are so many different events taking place in Galway that we can hardly keep up! June isn’t any different, with Cycle week taking place and new Powerboats racing in front of Galway as well! It is going to be a great month! These are events in Galway this June you should check out:
Galway Bike Week – 11-19th June
Galway Bike Week 2016 takes place in June with cycling events all over Galway county, organised the local authority, community groups, charities and cycling groups. You can find out more on www.galwaycycling.org and we defo recommend to check out Great Galway Bike Ride on 19th with 1,500 cyclists from all over the country pedalling around Galway city and county!
Venture Cup Powerboat Race – 15th June
The Venture Cup is the longest, toughest and most prestigious powerboat race in the world and on the 15th June 2016 Galway will be the only port out of six around Ireland where the stunning powerboats will compete in inport racing. Using the Aran Islands as a chicane along the route, the races which are held over four days will involve vessels that have broken speed records of 244mph and will be visible from the Promenade in Salthill.
Galway Rowing Regatta – 19th June
This year’s Galway Regatta will take place at the NUIG grounds at Dangan. Galway’s oldest rowing regatta, this year it celebrates its 132nd anniversary, and once again entries from all four provinces with many of the top rowing clubs in Ireland are expected to compete.
Galway Sessions – 12-19th June
The Galway Sessions Festival returns celebrating Irish folk and traditional music and the music Irish emigrants brought with them across the world. The focus of this year’s Galway Sessions is on piping and pipers. It is a celebration of piping! Through the extensive programme they hope to demonstrate how piping has evolved since Éamonn Ceannt’s day. Challenge Galway Triathalon – 26th June
With half and full triathlon options, this is the day to remember! A race village will be built at the former ‘Topaz’ site at Galway Docks, which will include concerts, bars and other entertainment over the weekend.
