Who doesn’t love Christmas Lights?! The way they sparkle down on you and make you all happy, fuzzy and warm on the inside… even though you are probably freezing on the outside! We have two big parties for Christmas Lights Switch on – one in Dublin and one in Galway, and as they are on different days you can make it to both!
Friday, 17th of November – Santa is coming to Galway City on the 17th November to officially Light up Galway City. This year Santa will be making 4 special stops on his magical train as he zips through the city turning on the lights. His first train stop will be in Galway’s Latin Quarter at the Cross Roads, where Galway comes alive.
Santa will then visit the Woodquay area of Galway to turn on their giant christmas tree and join in the christmas spirit. He will finish up with a trip to Galway’s East Village, to join a host of local celebrities and musicians on stage. Here Santa will turn on the final lights of the city and the Christmas market live from the stage at the main entrance to the Eyre Square Shopping Centre
Events kick off from 5pm in the Latin quarter
Sunday, 19th of November is the day! This year, Christmas lights switch on ceremony is completely different than usually! There is going to be ‘Procession Of Light’ which will light up the city with a magical Christmas event on Sunday November 19th. From 5.30pm there will be two processions taking place on either side of the city centre – on the Northside it will start from Mary’s Street and on the Southside it will begin on Grafton Street. They will meet up on O’Connell street for big Christmas party and giant tree switch on moment!
Event is starting at 5.30 pm, with plenty to see, regardless of where in city centre you may find yourself. For all info, map and details head to dublinatchristmas.ie
We do love a good parade, don’t you? Wherever you find yourself, this is the weekend when Christmas Fun is getting switched on! Galway Christmas Market is kicking off this Friday as well, so after you see Santa and lights are lighting your way back home, you can indulge in a mulled wine or bratwurst at the market.
