  • 2nd - 15th May: Festival - International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival
    The largest festival of its kind takes place in Dublin this May! an annual event, celebrating contribution of gay people to theatre, past and present. The Festival creates new opportunities for visibility and affirmation for existing and emerging gay artists and theatrical works. With shows running everyday you will be spoilt for choice!     Dublin Dance Festival is Ireland's only festival dedicated to presenting the best contemporary dance the world has to offer.   • 1st - 11th June: Festival - Trinity College Dublin Shakespere Festival
    The Trinity College Dublin Shakespeare Festival will return for a third year this summer following the success of the previous two festivals and will run from the 1st - 11th June.

    With a huge number of outdoor performances, lectures and master-classes from very special guests as well as our headline event, Romeo and Juliet and Twelfth Night (performed by internationally renowned GB Theatre Company), this promises to be the festival's most exciting year to date. The grounds of Trinity College and the environs of Dublin City will be brought to life as the backdrop of what is one of the highlights of Dublin's cultural calendar. Both the city and college will be transformed into 'living' spaces in which Shakespeare's work will be presented and explored in a variety of different contexts and formats.     UNIMAGINABLE TRICKS, UNTHINKABLE FEATS, UNBELIEVABLE HILARITY ... & ALL FOR FREE!
    This June the best contortionists, magicians, breakdancers, comedians and other assorted world-class professional jesters will descend on Dublin's Merrion Square, to battle it out for the most coveted title in street performance, the AIB Street Performance World Champion.

    All entertainment at the festival is entirely free of charge, with the performers, who have dedicated their lives to this amazing art form, asking for a contribution from their audience at the end of each show.

      In the lead up to the Bram Stoker Centenary in April 2012, the new and invigorated Stoker Dracula Organisation incorporates its 20th International Summer School into a Halloween Horror Festival to be held in the fitting surrounds of the character laden, baronial gothic Clontarf Castle on Castle Avenue, Clontarf - Bram Stokers hometown.     For the 11th year running, The Mansion House on Dawson Street will host a traditional nativity scene set with live animals in a specially constructed lifesize stable.

    17th - 24th December: Dame District Christmas Market
    The Dame District Christmas Market is held in Dame Court just parallel to Georges Street and behind Dame Street which is only a few minutes walk from Barnacles Hostel Temple Bar.

    For seven wonderful days leading up to Christmas, the inaugural Dame District Christmas Market will transform one of Dublin's most unique areas into a magical Christmas village to host a Christmas party that even Santa's elves would be proud of.  There will be something for everyone as the streets are adorned with Christmas choirs, Christmas theatre, Santa's Grotto, puppet shows, special guest performers, workshops and Christmas fashion shows.

    The Dame District Christmas market will host some of the best market traders in the country where you will find everything from handmade arts & crafts to toys, knitwear and jewelry in addition to a host of intriguing stocking stuffer's and unique gift ideas.

    Hungry shoppers will find themselves sampling the best in street fair foods - sour dough wood pizza’s, rotary chickens, meats and cheeses, chocolates, warm ciders, and hot seasonal drinks.
